Harry Potter Robe Pattern Free DIY Tutorial:
Step 1 – Cut out the Hogwart's Robe
Assemble the pattern you can to find detailed instructions here.
For velocity's sake I've designed the pattern so one piece doubles because the front and the back. Essentially you're going to lower out the again after which reduce down the pattern so you can cut out the front.
On folded cloth, Place the again at the fold and minimize out 1.
When you spread the again it must be one large piece.
Next it's time to cut out the Hood: here you'll see the way it will have to be placed on the material in the case of the robe back to get the most from your fabric.
Get the wizard hood and on folded fabric cut 2.
You'll notice at the Harry Potter Wizard gown pattern piece that there is a red line.
Cut down the pattern to the red line to make out the shape of the entrance.
Place pattern on folded material and cut 2. Notice that this pattern piece DOES NOT sit down at the fold, Be sure to mark the notches.
so you will have TWO separate pattern pieces if you end up finished.
For the sleeves of the Harry Potter Robe Pattern, with the rest cloth modify the fold so it's NOT within the middle of the fabric.
Make it extensive sufficient to cut out a sleeve, lower one and alter the fold again to cut out the opposite sleeve.
Here's a visual reference of methods to reduce out all the items from the material:
For the home colour lining cut out the following:
Cut two of the sleeve lining at the fold.
Cut two of the wizard cloak lining.
and cut two of the wizard cloak hood lining. Note: to get the most from your material, you'll flip the pattern piece so the published side is face down at the material. Make certain you come with the notches for reference later.
Here's a visual reference of easy methods to lower out all of the pieces of the Harry Potter Robe Pattern lining:
Step 2 – Begin to Sew the Robe
All seam allowances are .5 inch until another way stated. Let's begin with the exterior of the robe.
Take the back and the robe and the 2 entrance pieces. Pin proper facets in combination
Sew the shoulder seams.
Next take the sleeves and pin to every facet, right aspects together.
Sew the sleeves to gown.
Right aspects together, Pin the side seams of the robe all of the to the ends of the sleeves.
Sew the perimeters. Set the robe aside
Step 3 – Begin to sew the Wizard Robe's hood
With proper sides in combination, sew the top of the hood exterior.
Then following the purple line at the pattern as a guide sew to the notch on the base of the neck.
Repeat this process with the hood lining in the house colour. Trim notches in to curves so it'll lay well.
Turn the hoods so fronts ( the lengthy immediately edge) are going through each and every different and pin proper facets in combination.
Sew in combination.
Turn right aspect out.
Stuff the liner into the hooded gown external.
Line up the notches and
Pin the hood to the gown neck, proper facets of the exterior touching.
Sew to the robe. Set the robe apart.
Step 4 – Prep the lining
To create that flash of space colour throughout the gown, we wish to prep and insert the liner to it. There are a few tactics to do it.
You want to finish the raw edge of the lining, ( that is the side of the liner that comes to some extent on the best). You can both flip it under a quarter of and inch, press and then zig zag stitch along the edge in a thread that's the identical colour to complete the edge. Or you'll use a turning foot to turn that raw edge underneath and end it ( this is how I did it). Note: Make certain that they are mirror images and also you don't end them at the same side.
Once that edge is finished you can attach it to the Hogwart's gown. Line up the top of the liner to the hood/ neck line right facets together.
Pin the liner and sew onto the wizard's robe.
Trim the seam on the attitude.
Turn the lining to the inside. repeat at the different facet.
Step 5 – Add the liner to the sleeves to the Wizard Robe
Now it's time so as to add that flash of color to the sleeves.
The the directly aspect end the edge like you did the liner. Either with a turned edge ( like I did or fold it under and to the mistaken facet and zig zag sew it down.)
Take the sleeve lining, and at the small side pin it right aspects together and stitch, to make it a loop.
Add it to the sleeves. With the gown sleeve turned proper aspect out, pin the wizard cloak sleeve lining to the sleeve so proper facets are touching (sleeve lining seam must be dealing with out). Note: The seams at the sleeve and the liner DO NOT fit up, the curves do. This is the hide the seams for a more pleasant appearance.
Pin each side to the sleeves proper sides together. Sew on, for this seam use a .25 inch seam allowance. trim curves.
Flip The lining out.
Then tuck it into the inside.
Optional, but advisable. Top sew along the out edge of the sleeve to stay the liner inside of and the glance neat. Hand tack the edge of the gown sleeve lining on the inside of the sleeve with glue or a couple of stitches to stay it in position.
Step 6 – Hem the Harry Potter Robe Pattern
Again there are a couple of other strategies you'll use.
You can turn the hem underneath an inch and stitch it along the threshold with a zig zag stitch
or you can use hem tape and iron up the hem,
or you can hand stitch the hem up too. It's your costume so you'll be able to finish it as effectively ( or as temporarily) as you want to.
Step 7 – Finishing touches
Add the home patch to the left facet of the robe.
If desired add a frog clasp where the front v comes to some degree on the wizard gown.
Top stitch around the entrance, and the hood so the gown will lay properly.
